Magazine cover analysis










The mast head of this magazine is simple and stands out to the audience.

 Three main colours are used on the cover white, red and yellow. The colour white is used to show the biggest visual contrast and represents the positive emotions which will attract an audience. The colour red is used to draw attention. It is often where the eye looks first. Red is the colour of energy and is used to make the audience feel excited to read the magazine. Whilst yellow is used to emphasis happiness and good times, which is effective to make the audience enjoy the magazine.

The image is of a singer from the band The Strokes. It’s a mid-shot, straight angle coloured photo. A mid-shot photo is used so the audience can see the type of clothes being used in this genre of fashion.

The main cover line is associated with the image. It is formatted large to show that it is a key feature. Also the over cover lines are in bold to show they are also an important feature in the magazine. The less important the cover line the smaller the text, this because the magazine does not want to waste space. Also on the cover is a selling line, a competition to engage the audience and make them want to buy it.

The bar code on the magazine is on the right of the magazine and is small, to not take up unnecessary space. Clash magazine targets audiences between the ages of 21 – 35 and is typically aimed at males although a fair percentage are female. Clash magazine says that 63% of readers are male and 37% of readers are female.




the mast head of the magazine is Big and bold to stand out. It’s coloured red because red draws your attention to the magazine.

The main colours on the cover excluding the image are yellow, blue, white, red and black. The colour yellow is used mainly on this cover because yellow is the most visible colour, it is also the most attention-getting colour, so it attracts an audience. Blue is used because it’s a favourite colour by many people and is the colour most preferred by men, this is important since this magazine is mostly directed at men. White is used to show the biggest visual contrast. Red is used to draw the reader’s attention since red is where the eye usually looks first. Lastly black is used to make the writing stand out more.

The main image is of a band the wombats. The image is a mid-shot of the three musicians doing an action pose; this is to show the group is energetic and shows the audience that their music could be the same. Also a mid-shot is used so the reader can see the clothes they are wearing and their type of fashion, this done to influence the reader.

The main cover line is related to the image. The main cover line is big and bold to show it’s a key feature in the magazine. The less important stories are smaller, but the cover lines on the lefthave images which suggest they are more important than the cover lines to the left of the magazine cover. Also on the cover is a selling line, it show the first band announcements for T in the park, a music festival. The bar code is small and is in the bottom right corner out of the way, so it does not take up space.

NME magazine targets an audience between 18-35 years of age. Also is more aimed at males than females. 69% male and 31% are female.


 The mast head of this magazine is simple; also it’s covered by    the image. This is ok because it’s a popular magazine and the  audience can tell what magazine it is without the full mast head.

 There are three main colours on this cover red, white and black.  Black is used in the background because it makes   everything on the front cover stand out more and it shows sophistication. Red is used to draw the reader’s attention to the cover lines, whereas white is used because it has the biggest visual contrast against black.

The main image is a mid-shot of the band the black keys. It’s against a black background to suggest they are a sophisticated. Also the shot shows the clothes they are wearing which are also quite sophisticated.

The main cover line is related to the image which shows it’s a key feature in the magazine, also it bright and bold to suggest it’s an important feature in the magazine. The other cover lines on the left are bold as well which shows they are also quite important features in the magazine, but the cover lines to the left are not bold to imply they are less important features in the magazine. The bar code is small and is in the bottom right corner out of the way, so it does not take up space.

Mojo magazine targets an audience of mostly male. 70% of readers are male and 30% of readers are female. Most readers of mojo magazine are mostly between the ages of 15 – 45 years.
